Mother-Daughter Valentine’s Day: Ways to celebrate with your daughter this year.
•Posted on 1月 28 2019
There's a special bond between mother and daughter. Why not celebrate that this Valentines Day?
Whether your daughter is still living at home with you, is away at college, or just flown the coop, here are some ways that you can celebrate her this year!
Valentine’s Day doesn't have to be all romance. It can be about honoring any special love in your life. And what’s more special than a mother-daughter connection?
Here are some fun ideas to celebrate your daughter this year.
Cook a meal together
Sign up for a cooking class and learn how to make something new together.
Not in the same place? Pick a recipe online or in a cookbook and try to cook it separately then share your experiences! Check out The Week’s post on 21 recipes to cook with friends for some great ideas. One suggestion is to take on a challenge that you may not cook on your own, like have you ever tried to make tamales from scratch?!
Take a class together
It can be active, like yoga or pilates, or creative like a painting class! The wine and paint phenomenon is sweeping the county, see if there’s one near you by searching “wine and paint”. If your daughter is under 21, call to see if she will be allowed. Many of these studios allow art students under 21 to take a class, but they may have some restrictions, so just double check to be safe.
Another idea is a do-it-yourself Bob Ross class! Now that Netflix has uploaded several seasons of Bob Ross, you can follow along at home. Choose what scene you would like to paint. The supplies needed are usually listed in the first few minutes of the show, so you know what you’ll need ahead of time.
Grab a canvas and brushes and keep the remote handy so you can pause and catch up. It’s your very own Bob Ross paint party!
Spark Conversations and Share Your Story
Having deep conversations with those closest to you can be a challenge! Are there questions that you wish you asked your mother? Create a list of some questions to ask your daughter and for her to ask you. Better yet, add one question per piece of paper and put them in a bowl or hat to draw them out one at a time, making it more like a game.
Some samples of great questions to ask and be asked:
- Imagine you are my age. What advice would you give yourself?
- Where do you see yourself in 5 years? In 10 years?
- Describe your perfect day.
- What’s your favorite Valentine's Day candy?
- Describe a Valentine's Day you remember - special or otherwise.
- What are you afraid of?
- Who is your hero?
- What’s the best thing about being in our family?
Send her something special
A simple card or gift package can go a long way, especially when you can’t be together. Does she have a favorite candy? A favorite restaurant that you can send her a gift card to? What about a little spa set?
Our Hugabox “You Deserve a Break” set includes everything needed for a relaxing evening. She’ll love it!
- slippers (one size fits all)
- handheld mirror
- massager
- brush
- loofah sponge
- pumice stone for nails
- shower tablets (eucalyptus)
- bag of chocolate kisses
Offer to help decorate her room or dorm room
If you have a gift of creating a comfortable home, offer to lend your daughter a hand in creating her own space. Decorating for yourself can be a challenge, especially if you’re new to being on your own or have a challenge like personalizing a dorm room. Having your mother's helping hand can make a huge difference plus add the little bit of comfort from home that can be incredibly special. Spend the day choosing a color pallet, textiles, and pictures that create a soft place to land for your daughter. Now, you don't have to go all-out like this mom, but give it a shot and have some fun with it.
What other ways can you think of to celebrate your daughter or mother?
